The fun of surf life saving starts from when you join as a nipper.
If you’re thinking of introducing your child to surf life saving, then nippers is the best place to do it. Nippers is open to children from the age of 5 through to 13 years old.
Surf life saving is an amazing activity for growing a child’s confidence, knowledge and skills in the beach environment. Not only will your child have fun and meet new friends they will become part of an iconic organisation that has served the Australian community for over 100 years.
The juniors of today are the future of surf life saving and that is not lost on the thousands of Age Managers and support personnel that look after nippers every summer. Every club in Australia offers a nippers program, all with various styles and sizes.
Not only is nippers a fun way for your child to enjoy the beach in a safe environment, it also offers children an educational pathway through the delivery of the SLSA Junior Development Program. This program is designed to ensure children have fun at the beach while participating in lessons that will pathway them to becoming a fully rounded participant in both lifesaving and sport – we like to call it ‘Serious Fun’.
When we speak about North Haven being a family life saving club, we don’t just mean that families are welcome. At North Haven, we encourage full family involvement and enjoy parental support. Our group leaders are volunteers: parents (and grandparents) and club members. Many of our parents have been so convinced of the positive impact life saving can have on their lives that they take on other leadership roles and become qualified Life Savers (Bronze Medallion holders).
And from the outset, let’s be clear about our aims. While we teach our young people the joys of being safe while having fun at the beach, we hope to instil life-long values and aspirations that will not only support them through life but encourage them to take initiative and be Life Savers themselves.
To provide a safe, caring environment where children can develop their surf lifesaving and competitive skills, whilst enjoying the experience.
The Junior activities program is conducted every Saturday from 1.00pm to 3.00pm (with the Under 6 & 7 groups finishing at 3:00pm). The Junior program begins at the age of five as a ‘fun’ based program and continues their development as a seven year old through to the age of 13. Children must have turned 5 yrs old by the 30th September of this year to commence nippers. Children can attend a ‘Come and Try’ session on any Saturday. Please ensure your Nipper wears sunsmart clothing at all times: Long Sleeved T-Shirt or rash vest, Wide brimmed hat and sunblock and a named bottle with water in it. In addition to Saturday Nippers, carnivals for U9 to U14 are held at various beaches on Sundays.
